High Strength™ (HS) vs Cord Reinforced (SR)
The HS model uses a woven reinforcement that covers 100% of the surface. To make this style of reinforcement we cut virgin polyethylene sheets into ribbons and then we stretch these ribbons to strengthen them. Once this process is done we weave these ribbons together using a loom. Reinforcing the vapor barrier this way allows us to control rips and tears in both directions. The HS is also made as one sheet, meaning we don’t weld two smaller sheets together to get the 12′ width. One of the features that sets the SilverBack® HS ahead of other woven barriers is we laminate a white 4 mil film to the top side of the vapor barrier. This film greatly improves the wear layer on the top of the vapor barrier for crawling and kneeling.
The SR model uses 1000 denier cord in a diamond pattern as the reinforcement. This cord is the same strength as the reinforcement cord in bias ply tires. The top and bottom layer are made of 9 mil film that are bonded together over the reinforcement cord with 2 mils of molten polyethylene. This process makes two different films into one. The SR has a weld in the center joining two 6’9″ wide panels together using a heat welder, this gives the finish width 13’4″. Because of the way we weave the cord and the high quality standard, we are limited to each panel at 6’9″. However, by welding these panels together we get an extremely durable, visually appealing and high performing product.
Both models are bright white on the top, silver on the bottom and come in several roll sizes to make installation a breeze.
